NATION, EDUCATION and ACTION

Roman T. Romulo is a lawyer, public servant, and currently the Representative for the Lone District of Pasig City, Philippines.

Lawyer, public servant and humanitarian, Roman Romulo was born to a family firmly founded on a tradition of excellence and service to the Filipino.

He follows a great tradition in service to the Filipino, as the grand-nephew of Filipino statesman, Pulitzer Prize winner and first and only Filipino President of the United Nations General Assembly Carlos P. Romulo, and the son of former Executive Secretary, Secretary of Finance, Budget Secretary and Secretary of Foreign Affairs Alberto Romulo

As a lawmaker, Roman Romulo has authored or co-authored over 130 house bills, many of them focusing on reforms urgently needed in different fields such as, education, public health, culture, public infrastructure development, and environmental laws. He is also among the active supporters of the passage of the Freedom of Information Act (FOI) in the House of Representatives.As a congressman, Roman has also paved the way for national progress in the form of hundreds of classrooms and educational facilities. He has also provided personal assistance for tens of thousands of families through medical missions, scholarships, health and livelihood projects and diplomatic assistance.

In his private life, Roman is married to former Valenzuela council member Shalani Soledad, who now devotes her time to supporting his causes and aids him in attending his responsibilities.

Education and Early Career

After attending primary school at Ateneo de Manila and Southridge School, Romulo took a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics at the University of the Philippines in Diliman. He then pursued his law degree at the prestigious University of the Philippines College of Law. He was conferred the degrees of Doctor of Public Administration, honoris causa by the Lyceum Northwestern University (2015) and Doctor of Humanities, honoris causa by the University of Baguio (2015)

Before his career in public service, Romulo practiced law for a number of years. He worked as an associate at Quisumbing Torres & Evangelista Law offices and a senior associate at Sycip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan Law Offices. He also underwent training courses in various legal fields at the International Development Law Institute in Rome, Italy.
